Spanish and Yoga
PRACTICE Hatha Yoga every morning and afternoon at Habla. Yoga classes will be taught in Spanish helping you to develop your Spanish while nurturing your body and mind as well. Every morning will begin with a Hatha Yoga class that will last for an hour and a half. Every day will close with a Yoga class that will provide a more in-depth exploration of the philosophy and theory of Yoga. On Fridays we will end the week with a trip to the ocean where you will practice Hatha Yoga at sunset.LEARN with an international team of extraordinary educators in a supportive environment. After the morning Yoga class, you will participate in Habla’s innovative Spanish classes collaboratively taught by Habla’s Spanish teachers and your Yoga instructor to ensure a holistic language experience. You will develop your Spanish by listening to and telling stories, learning about the photography and visual art of Mexico, and reading songs, poems, and short stories by Mexican authors. Even students new to the language will have an authentic experience learning how to express themselves in Spanish. The focus of all of our Spanish courses is using language in creative and improvisational ways. A strong emphasis is placed on communicating through discussions and writings. CREATE using the Spanish you are learning. The Spanish courses at Habla will provide a chance to think, reflect, discuss, and write in a new language. This creating we will do in the Spanish courses will be a continuation of the morning Yoga experiences. LIVE with a local Mexican family, sharing typical Yucatecan meals and the rhythm of Yucatecan life (optional). Organic Mexican coffee, bottled water, a range of artisanal teas, and a mid-day snack of local Yucatecan food is provided every day at Habla. Habla also has free Wi-Fi access. Class size for this program will be limited to a maximum of 12 participants to ensure intimate Yoga and Spanish classes. Schedule
The Yoga and Spanish program includes daily from Monday to Friday, at Habla: 9:00am-10:30am One Friday of each week we will leave early to travel to a beach house (transportation will be provided). We are very careful about the quality of all of our homestays. All of the families have experience in taking care of international guests, the homes are clean, and you will have a private room. Yoga provided Daniela a way to combine her interest in culture with her ongoing interest in physical health and wellness. In 2008 she traveled to India where she learned Lyengar Yoga from Bhanu Roa in Sreedhara Sreegudda Ashram in Bangalore. Daniela has also received training from Gurumatha Amma, in the areas of Indian philosophy and culture and she has studied alignment and therapeutic Yoga with Michael Gannon and Rosmary Atri.In addition to her interest in Yoga, Daniela has consulted on the design of a Mayan cultural museum in Yucatan, facilitated arts experiences for students in multiple educational settings, and she teaches Spanish language classes through the arts on a regular basis at Habla. Maria del Mar Patron VazquezMs. Patron Vazquez is the co-founder and director of Habla. She holds a graduate degree from Brown University in Hispanic studies with a focus on Mexican literature. She has coordinated several conferences including the Trans-Atlantic Literature Conference in the Hispanic Studies Department at Brown University and the Habla 2008 Mini-Summit in Merida involving leaders in arts education across the United States and Mexico. Ms. Patron-Vazquez won the Presidential Teaching Award for her innovative teaching of Spanish at Brown University.
